PO Box 995 Alternate Dispute Resolution is a modern, efficient and effective way of resolving legal disputes in a fair and confidential manner, thereby avoiding the protracted delays and huge expenses often associated with law suits. Arbitration and Mediation are the chief methods of this process. Alternate Dispute Resolution is often used in such diverse fields as employment discrimination, construction defects, products liability, environmental litigation, insurance, professional malpractice, banking, intellectual property, internet, health care, personal injury, commercial and complex contract disputes. Our Alternate Dispute Resolution Department is chaired by Judge Burrell Ives Humphreys, a retired Judge of the Superior Court Appellate Division and former Assignment Judge of the Hudson and Essex Vicinages. The Assignment Judge is the Chief Judge of the Vicinage and responsible for the operation of all courts in the Vicinage. Judge Humphreys was specially designated by the Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court to handle both environmental cases and land use cases involving affordable housing. Judge Humphreys is a member of the Panel of Federal Arbitrators and Mediators and a member of the Panel of Distinguished Neutrals for the prestigious CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution. He is also a certified mediator for the New Jersey courts. The other members of the Department are retired Presiding Judge Ralph V. Martin and Linda H. Samson. Judge Martin served as a Judge of the Superior Court for 22 years, and was also a Presiding Judge of the Superior Court. He also chaired and served on many Committees of the New Jersey Supreme Court. He is the former Chairman of the Election Law Enforcement Commission. His areas of practice include special litigation, business and contract law, commercial law and alternate dispute resolution. Linda H. Samson was the President of the Passaic County Bar Association, the co-chair of the Domestic Relations Committee of the Bar Association and a member of the Matrimonial and Complementary Dispute Resolution Committees of the Bar Association.
